Kundalini Yoga – The Yoga of Awareness
Kundalini Yoga, sometimes referred to as “the yoga of awareness,” offers more forms of breathing and a more sophisticated understanding of breath than any other Yoga. Each of these forms of breath opens access to different bodily functions, specific areas of the brain, and states of consciousness. There are exercises for every conceivable physical, emotional, spiritual and mental area of our being.
This is a yoga that permits practitioners to overcome addictions, replacing them with highly pleasurable states of consciousness without the use of drugs or alcohol, with relative ease. Kundalini Yoga takes you right to the center of your essence where you can experience the pulse of your Creator.
It has been said that relative to other types of Yoga, Kundalini Yoga is like learning to drive by getting on the freeway. One year of dedicated Kundalini Yoga practice is the equivalent of many many years of any other yogic discipline.
Both Kundalini Yoga and Reichian Breathwork are incredibly powerful for accelerating improved circulation in the body, a stronger nervous system, cleansing and strengthening. Both are known to create significant improvements in our awareness, sensitivity, positive body image and sexual potency, and allow a person to confront the ego, drop fear and develop a capacity to be happy in the midst of challenges.
Siri Gian Khalsa of the Reichian Institute is very fortunate to have been trained by Yogi Bhajan, the remarkable teacher who brought Kundalini Yoga to the west from India. He now shares this knowledge with students of all levels.
Yogi Bhajan arrived in America in 1969 on a mission to “train teachers rather than to create followers.”
Prior to his arrival in the United States, Kundalini was an esoteric style of yoga largely unknown to westerners. Yogi Bhajan felt called upon to share this gift to help the people of the country that had the most influence over international events to help them stay centered, balanced and in service during what he foresaw as a coming period of great insecurity and danger. Even in the 1960s he anticipated that global ecological changes, information overload, economic insecurity and sweeping political changes would create major challenges for people everywhere on the Earth. He felt that America and the west in general were leaders in so many ways that having teachers of Kundalini Yoga in these countries was essential to the Earth’s survival.
One very powerful aspect of the Kundalini Yoga lifestyle is White Tantra. Over several thousand years there has been one person in the world who is the designated master of white tantra, and this honor was conferred upon Yogi Bhajan in 1971. He teaches that we all are afraid to one degree or another of intimacy and White Tantric Yoga is able to free us of our fears of intimacy more quickly and more thoroughly than any other technology.
